Our specialists, Ella and Lena are certified and trained in laser technology and laser treatments. Although there are hundreds of different laser devices on the market, the specialists at Lenella Laser Spa have selected the most advanced laser hair removal equipment (Polylase LP – Dual-Laser Hair Removal Technology) that is proven to be SAFE, QUICK, and EFFECTIVE.
Laser Hair Removal Overview
Laser hair removal uses concentrated beams of laser energy to damage hair follicles at the root, and make future growth more difficult. The procedure can be tailored to the client’s skin tone and hair color, creating a versatile system that can provide benefit to a wide range of clients. This procedure can be used to treat nearly any area of the face and body including the neck, chest, back, underarms, forearms, legs and bikini line. Our Laser Hair Removal Technology
Our Dual-Laser hair removal technology, The Polylase LP, is one of only two laser hair removal devices in all of Brooklyn to provide permanent hair reduction using state-of-the-art technology. This revolutionary technology is highly effective in treating a wide range of skin types and colors. This is why we’re proud to have many of clients who don’t live in the South Brooklyn area but who don’t mind the extra travel time (our laser hair removal device is THIS good). The Polylase LP hair removal system used at Lenella Laser Spa has been cleared by the FDA for permanent hair reduction, which means it can reduce unwanted hair by as much as 85 % or even more. It actually has multiple FDA-Cleared applications! No device exists that can guarantee 100-percent permanent hair removal, since some follicles may continue to produce fine, light hairs after the procedure that may not respond to additional laser treatments.
The Polylase LP system is recognized in the industry as the “gold standard” in laser hair removal and provides 2 modes of operation:
1. The 755nm Alexandrite mode provides less pain and high efficacy for hair removal on light skin. This wavelength is also indicated for removal of age/sun spots (lentigines), purple veins, port wine stains and birth marks.
2. The 1064 nm Nd:YAG mode provides the advantages of safe hair removal on dark/tanned skin. The deeper penetration of the 1064nm wavelength provides maximum efficacy for hair removal in deep follicles (e.g. a man’s beard, a woman’s bikini line, etc.). The Polylase LP uses a patented hand-piece to maximize our clients’ comfort and safety. Treatments are relatively comfortable for our clients and require little to no downtime afterward.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
The Polylase LP laser hair removal system uses a laser that is commonly used in household electronics like DVD players, printers and scanners. These lasers are extremely safe and versatile. For laser hair removal, these lasers are often preferred among cosmetic doctors because of their effectiveness and comfort for our clients. The Polylase LP is completely unique from other laser hair removal systems because it can transmit a range of pulse lengths during your treatment as well as handle both light skin tones and very dark skin tones. The various pulse options allow our specialists the ability to customize treatments based on a client’s unique needs. Our laser device is effective in treating a wide range of clients since The Polylase LP can address the broadest range of hair colors, skin types and tones, textures and diameters. However, some hair may be too light for the laser to pick up and some skin may be too pigmented for the laser to target. You will be advised to refrain from tanning or using self-tanning solutions, as this can compromise the skin and result in less successful hair reduction overall. You will also be advised to shave your treatment area first but NOT TO PULL your hair out. Unlike other laser hair removal machines, you won’t have to wait until your hair grows out to receive treatments. In preparation for your treatments and to increase their success, we advise our clients to shave their hair because our laser targets the follicles located deep under the skin – leading to longer-lasting results.
What to Expect from Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is performed at Lenella Laser Spa (comfortably situated in Universal Hair & Spa). Depending on the size and location of the area to be treated, a treatment session can last anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or more. The majority of our appointments take 30 minutes or less, and clients are immediately back to their daily routine.Laser hair removal is considered a relatively comfortable treatment, with most clients describing the sensation when the laser penetrates the follicles like the light snap of a rubber band. More sensitive areas can be treated with a topical numbing cream first to ensure the procedure is tolerable. Any discomfort experienced is typically mild and subsides within two to three hours after the treatment.
You will be able to return to your daily activities right away, but you will be instructed to avoid hot water like a bath or hot tub for 24 to 48 hours. Sun exposure is also prohibited in the treatment area for a few days to prevent potential pigmentation irregularities or other complications. Therefore, tanning or even use of a self-tanner during the series of treatments is discouraged as this can compromise the skin and result in less successful hair reduction. No other aftercare is necessary with this procedure.
Laser Hair Removal FAQs
What is the difference between laser hair removal and electrolysis?Laser hair removal uses laser energy to eliminate unwanted hair, while electrolysis utilizes electrical energy. The hand-piece used for laser treatments sweeps across the treatment site while the laser targets the follicles within the area. By contrast, electrolysis devices must be placed into each follicle individually, resulting in a much longer, more tedious process. Both of these treatments offer long-lasting hair reduction, but laser procedures have primarily replaced electrolysis due to their efficiency, efficacy, comfort and safety.
Does the procedure hurt?
There is a noticeable sensation as the laser energy is administered to the hair follicle. Clients often liken it to the feeling of a rubber band lightly snapping against the skin. The sensation is quick, ensuring the procedure is quite tolerable for most of our clients. Any lingering discomfort should subside within a couple of hours.
Can I use this technology to remove my gray hair?
While The Polylase LP laser offers treatment to a wide range of hair colors and skin tones, it does not work as well on gray or white hair. The ineffectiveness is because the laser targets the melanin in the hair follicle and these hair shades lack melanin. An in-person evaluation with one of our specialists will be able to quickly determine whether laser hair removal is the right approach for you.
What is the recovery after laser hair removal?
There is no recovery time after hair removal treatment, so you should be able to return to work or other activities right away. You will need to keep treated skin out of the sun for a few days to avoid pigmentation issues, and avoid overly hot water, but there are no other restrictions on an activity level. Discomfort after this procedure is typically minor and usually only lasts a couple of hours at most.
How many treatments will I need?
Laser hair removal is only useful in treating hair follicles that are in the active growth stage. Because hair grows in various stages, multiple treatments are needed for optimal results. Depending on your specific condition, you may require anywhere from four to 10 treatments, spaced four to eight weeks apart to see the outcome you want. Once you achieve that result, an occasional touch-up procedure may be used to maintain your smooth, hair-free appearance.
What do I need to do to prepare for the laser hair removal treatments?
Rather than waiting for your hair to grow in (as is done with older less advanced laser machines), you will be advised to shave (NOT PULL) all your hair from the area(s) you want to be treated. You can safely use shaving creams, foams, gels, or after-shaves the way you normally do in preparation for your treatments. After the treatments, you’ll be advised to stay away from any form of tanning (i.e. no sun, tanning beds, self-tanning lotions) but you can freely do any other activities like showering, bathing, exercise, sex, etc. 🙂
